Our take on Glean.

The enterprise-search leader has grown into an agent platform: a permissions-aware knowledge graph, 15+ swappable LLMs, and ~$300M ARR behind it. It genuinely works — but budget for $40–80/user/month custom quotes, 100+ seat minimums, and real implementation work.

What works

  • Permissions-aware knowledge graph across your whole stack — answers respect access controls, which is the feature that gets security teams to yes
  • Model-neutral: 15+ supported LLMs plus a no-code agent builder, so the knowledge layer isn't tied to one lab's roadmap
  • Proven at scale — ~$300M ARR by May 2026 and 100M+ agent actions a year, in a category full of demos

What doesn't

  • Opaque enterprise pricing: reported $40–80/user/month, 100+ seat minimums, paid POCs, and renewal increases of 30–50% at scale
  • Real deployment work — implementation services commonly run $20K–$80K, and value depends on connecting most of your stack, not a pilot corner of it

Glean has outgrown the "searchable brain" pitch we reviewed last year. The foundation is the same — a permissions-aware knowledge graph stitched across your wikis, Slack, docs, and databases, so answers respect who's allowed to see what — but the company now frames itself as a Work AI platform, and the numbers say the market agrees: a $150M Series F at a $7.2B valuation in June 2025, and ARR estimated around $300M by May 2026, up from roughly $208M at the end of 2025. The retrieval layer that made search good turns out to be exactly what agents need, and that's where the product energy has gone.

Glean Agents, launched in early 2025, lets teams build no-code agents that act on that same governed knowledge graph — the company says the platform is handling over 100 million agent actions a year and pacing toward a billion. Two design choices stand out. First, model neutrality: Glean supports more than 15 LLMs, so you're not betting your knowledge layer on one lab's roadmap. Second, governance is a product, not a footnote — Glean Protect is a paid SKU aimed squarely at the "what did the AI just show whom" question that stalls enterprise rollouts. The obvious comparison is Microsoft 365 Copilot at $30/user/month, and the honest split is this: if your knowledge genuinely lives in the Microsoft estate, Copilot's marginal cost is hard to argue with. Glean's case is the heterogeneous reality most companies actually have — Slack and Jira and Confluence and Google Docs and a data warehouse — where Copilot simply can't see most of the answers.

The cost reality deserves plain language. Glean doesn't publish pricing; reported figures run $40–80 per user per month with seat minimums of 100+, paid proofs-of-concept, implementation services commonly in the $20K–$80K range, and customers reporting renewal increases of 30–50% at scale. At 1,500 seats you can be approaching a million dollars a year. Whether that pencils out depends entirely on how many salary-hours your org burns on "I know we documented this somewhere" — for a large company with real document chaos, it often does. For smaller teams, you're paying for sophistication you don't need yet.
