Stripe
Payments infrastructure for the internet — with an official MCP server and agent toolkit so AI agents can work with the Stripe API in natural language.

Overview
Stripe
Stripe is the payments platform a large part of the internet runs on — accepting cards, subscriptions, invoicing, and payouts through a developer-first API.
For AI, Stripe ships an official MCP server (part of its agent toolkit) that lets agents interact with the Stripe API through the Model Context Protocol — create and look up customers, payments, products, and subscriptions in natural language. Because it is first-party, it maps to Stripe's real API surface and handles authentication properly.
That makes Stripe one of the systems agents can safely act inside, not just read about.
FAQ
Does Stripe have an official MCP server? Yes. Stripe runs a remote MCP server that authenticates with OAuth and exposes read and write access to about 130 API methods, documentation search and an implementation planner. Writes that move money, such as refunds and outbound payments, wait for human confirmation, and administrators can revoke an agent session from the dashboard.
Can AI agents pay with Stripe? Yes. Stripe co-developed the Agentic Commerce Protocol with OpenAI, which powers instant checkout inside ChatGPT, and its shared payment tokens work with the Mastercard and Visa agent programmes and with buy-now-pay-later networks. Agent wallets and guardrails were announced in April 2026.
How much does Stripe cost to use with agents? There is no subscription. Stripe charges per successful transaction, with custom rates at volume, and the MCP server and agent toolkit are included. Add-on products such as billing and tax carry their own fees.

Editorial Review
Our take on Stripe.

The most carefully built first-party agent surface of any payments company: a remote MCP server with proper OAuth and a human-confirmation gate on anything that moves money, sitting on rails that now let AI agents pay at checkout across the big card networks.
What works
- Remote first-party MCP server with OAuth and a human-confirm gate on money-moving writes
- Agent payment rails span ChatGPT checkout, Visa, Mastercard and BNPL networks
- Pay-as-you-go platform with no monthly fee to reach the agent tooling
What doesn't
- Agent-facing surface is preview-heavy and changes monthly; no pinned toolkit releases
- Connected-account access still uses raw keys rather than OAuth
Stripe is in this directory for what it gives agents, not merchants. Its official MCP server runs remotely, authenticates through OAuth as the protocol specifies, and exposes read and write access across roughly a hundred and thirty API methods plus documentation search, an implementation planner and, in preview, analytics and treasury balances. The detail that earns the rating is the confirmation gate: writes that move money, such as refunds and outbound payments, wait for a human to approve inside a time window, and an administrator can revoke an agent session from the dashboard.
Around it Stripe has built the plumbing for agents as buyers, not just operators: an agentic commerce protocol developed with OpenAI that powers instant checkout inside ChatGPT, shared payment tokens extended in March 2026 to the Mastercard and Visa agent programmes and to the buy-now-pay-later networks, and, from its April conference, agent wallets and guardrails. The platform is pay-as-you-go per successful transaction with no monthly fee.
The cautions are about pace. Much of the agent-facing surface is labelled preview and moves monthly, the toolkit has no published releases to pin to, and connected-account access still needs raw keys rather than OAuth. Stripe also agreed in August to buy OpenRouter, the model gateway; that deal had not closed when we checked, and what it does to the toolkit is not yet visible.
