What works

PaperClip does one thing: it saves fragments from the AI papers and technical posts you read, then lets you search them later. The sources it targets are the ones an ML researcher actually lives in — arXiv, Hugging Face, OpenAI's blog, Wikipedia.

The design decision that matters is local processing. The model runs in the browser and does not send your saved material to a server, and search works offline. For anyone reading pre-publication work or material under NDA, that removes the question of where your reading history is being stored. Storage overhead is trivial: a couple of dozen saved fragments occupy a fraction of a megabyte.

The limits are the flip side of the same design. It is Chrome-only, scoped to what you can reach in a browser tab, and it is a recall aid rather than a citation manager — no library, no BibTeX, no sharing with collaborators. Judge it as a personal memory layer and it holds up. Expect Zotero and it will not.
