Welcome to ToolDirectory.AI — and what makes us different

Welcome. ToolDirectory.AI is a directory of currently at the time of posting 2,145 AI tools, organised so you can actually find one that fits the work in front of you. It's been running since 2023, refreshed continuously, and edited by humans who use these tools every day.

We think most AI directories have a credibility problem: every tool is "5 stars," every product is "the best," and the lists never get pruned when something quietly dies. We've taken a different approach.

Three things we do differently

Every rating has evidence behind it. Across our top tools, every star rating is backed by something we can cite in a sentence — G2 review counts, funding rounds, public-company status, named enterprise customers, Trustpilot scores, news-confirmed acquisitions. Tools without real signal sit at honest mid-tier ratings, not aspirational ones. Builder.ai and a handful of others have been unpublished after fraud reporting; Rabbit R1 has been de-rated after the 95% abandonment news. We update when reality does.

We track when tools die. Our AI Graveyard currently lists 196 products that shut down or got acquired since we started — with sources, dates, and acquirer names where they exist. If a tool you used to rely on disappeared, this is the one place you can find out where it went.

We pick favourites, and we say why. Our Top 100 groups tools into editorial tiers (flagship, leader, rising, gem) — not by raw popularity, but by who's actually shipping at scale. ChatGPT, Claude, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Midjourney, Perplexity sit at the top because they've earned it. The "rising" tier is where we put the ones we think will be there next year.
