    Argo AI was the autonomous driving software company that Ford and VW jointly invested ~$7B in across six years. Founded in 2016 by Bryan Salesky (ex-Google) and Peter Rander (ex-Uber ATG), Argo developed Level 4 tech and ran robotaxi pilots in Pittsburgh, Miami, and Austin. Ford and VW jointly pulled funding in October 2022, citing that the timeline to commercial Level 4 exceeded their planning windows. Ford spun up Latitude AI internally to absorb some Argo talent and refocus on Level 2/3 driver-assistance for production vehicles.
