Overview
Notion Mail was an AI-powered email client from Notion Labs, built on top of Gmail. It launched to the public in April 2025 after a 2024 preview, and brought Notion-style views, AI labelling and drafting to the inbox. Notion shut it down on September 22, 2026.
What it did
Notion Mail connected to a Gmail account and synced with it in real time. Users could build custom inbox views, have Notion AI auto-label and sort incoming mail, write replies with AI assistance, save reusable snippets, schedule emails and book meetings. It was designed to fit into the wider Notion workspace alongside Notion Calendar and Notion's AI agents.
What happened
On June 25, 2026, Notion announced it would wind down the Notion Mail inbox across web, desktop and iOS on September 22, 2026. The company said that as its agents became more capable, more than half of Notion Mail users were managing email without ever opening the inbox, so it chose to focus on agents instead. Because Notion Mail was a client rather than a mail host, messages stayed in users' Gmail accounts. Drafts, scheduled emails, snippets and auto-label instructions had to be exported manually before the shutdown.
